The Bandits love cross-country, or XC as it is known, because it’s big, it’s cheap and it’s fun! Our men’s and women’s team both compete in the Surrey League which runs from mid-October to February. We also send big teams to the annual relays, London, Southern and the “big one” – National Championships. XC is for everyone: it’s a team sport and we want you in our team!

For all things XC including dates, info, kit and how to enter, grab a cuppa and have a read of the Guide to Cross Country.

If you have any questions about XC, feel free to post queries on the FRC Facebook group or contact the cross-country captains on fulhamXC@gmail.com

The club’s cross-country captains are: Women’s – Judith Clarkson, Louise Garlick and Hazel Jackson and. Men’s – Andrew Han and Chris Cooper, Trevor Ingram and Nick Thomas.

Boaty 10 mile race

Boaty McBoat Race, as it’s affectionately known within the club, is a 10 mile race along the route of the University Boat race to Chiswick Bridge… and back again!

Boaty… the fourth edition was scheduled for Sunday 5th July 2020 but was cancelled due to Covid. We are hoping to arrange the next race for July 2021.

Look out for it as an event on our Facebook Group. Registration opens in the early summer for both runners and our superb team of volunteers! Oh… and it is always FREE!

Stagger / Club Handicap

The Stagger (or Handicap) was first run in 2004 and is an annual feature: twice a year! The race is run on the 2 Bridges route (4mile / 6.5km), starting and finishing on Stevenage Road, outside of Bishop’s Park.

The ‘handicap’ sees the club’s steadier runners starting first, with the faster runners gradually being released over the following 30 minutes. With these release times based on current parkrun times, the idea is for people to cross the finish time at around the same time… crazy!

The Stagger is organised twice a year in early and late summer.

Mob matches

We arrange mob matches against other clubs. These are head to head races against rival clubs!  These are definitely for everyone… the more bandits that participate the more likely we are to win! Points are usually scored by counting finish positions. Look out for events on Facebook!

Wimbledon Trail Series

This is a series of three races on Wimbledon Common every summer.  This is hugely popular amongst the Bandits: we typically have 50 people racing! And we go for a social after! Look out for announcements and events on Facebook!

Surrey Road League

Much like our beloved XC, the Surrey Read League is an opportunity for members of the club to compete both individually and as a team in a series of local running events. The FRCers who took part in these races in previous year couldn’t recommend them highly enough and really enjoyed being part of the league.

How the road league works – there are 7 races of varied distances. At each race, the first 3 male and female finishers score points for the team. The overall league results are decided from each club’s best five scores from the 7 races. In addition, each individual runner will score points within their age category based on where they finish, and their best 5 scores from the 7 races will give their overall score.

Unlike the cross country league, the road league races are entered individually by runners. You can take part in as many or as few of them as you want to, but obviously the more runners we have at each one the stronger our team will be!

To enter, check out the Surrey League website where you will find individual links to each race. This is a great opportunity to run that summer half marathon/10mile/10km/5km race that you may have been mentally planning to do whilst at the same time competing as part of the Fulham team

These races sell out early so if you are interested please commit as soon as possible!!

SS5 – Second Sunday 5

Run on the second Sunday of every month, this 5 miler is extremely popular within the FRC ranks. Organised by another local club – Thames Hare & Hounds – it is a great value 5 mile XC race on Wimbledon Common, with free drinks and snacks in the club house after.

It’s recommended to sign up online before the event although you can also sign up on the day if there are spaces. More info here.

Track racing is becoming ever more popular amongst the Bandits! Track races come at distances ranging from 100m to 10,000m and, of course, the traditional mile.

The arrival of spring means the arrival of the track & field season. There’s a ton of events for both running and spectating. Check out the club’s Gmail calendar for events you might be interested in, or post a query on the Facebook group…the club’s track team will be very happy to advise and help!
