Embrace the mud: Your guide to the FRC 2026/27 cross country season
Written by NEW XC Captain Dan Mahoney, this guide covers everything you need to know for Fulham Running Club’s 2026/27 Cross Country season—from Surrey League fixtures and EA registration to getting your stripes ready for the mud!

Do you love mud, and resent all the years of being told not to leap into filthy puddles? Do you have a yearning to conquer the toughest hills that Surrey has to offer? And above all, do you want to experience the camaraderie and triumph that only fierce competition can bring?
If any of these are true, then good news! Cross Country (XC) season is returning, and it promises to deliver all of this and more.
What is cross country (XC) with Fulham Running Club?
From October through February, the brave bandits of FRC will be taking on a series of fun, challenging, and exhilarating Cross Country events across London and the South East—and we’d love for as many of you to join us as possible!
Our main competition is the Surrey League, where our Men’s and Women’s teams will both be competing for glory across a four-race season. We’ll also be taking on the London, Southern, and National Cross Country Championships.
Cross Country is one of the absolute highlights of club life. It gives you an opportunity to test yourself on classic courses, feel the pure excitement of racing, and come together with your fellow club members as a team to support one another and have a blast.

Why XC is for everyone (yes, even you!)
Think Cross Country is only for elite runners? Think again! XC isn’t about being the fastest—it’s entirely about taking part, packing the field, and proudly representing the club.
If you haven’t done Cross Country since school, don’t let old memories scare you off. Running in the mud as an adult is a completely different experience. This time around, you’ve got the full support and camaraderie of your fellow FRCers cheering you on every step of the way. And best of all? There’s always a well-earned celebratory drink waiting at the end!
