The fourth and final round of the Surrey League cross country took place on Saturday 10 February in Lloyd Park, Croydon, and what a way to end the league!
23 men and 16 women from Fulham Running Club took on a tough course with a mix of fairly firm ground to start, but then, hidden out of sight of the start, some pretty muddy conditions awaited.
Men's race: "Relaxed" run, top results
No worries of relegation for the men this year, so they could loosen up and enjoy the mixed terrain. The course started with firm ground, but soon gave way to hidden muddy surprises!
Tom Mackay and Joe Houlton led the charge, securing comfortable top 10 finishes. The rest of the team followed strong, with Dan Mahoney, Callum Mason, Gareth Hopkins, Alex Vanstone, Dylan Williams, Thomas Curtis, Alfie Pearce-Higgins, and Mattia Gobbo completing the scoring pack.
A 5th place team finish on the day solidified their 5th place overall standing for the season - well done lads! And a special shout out to Tom for his individual 3rd place in the league!
Ladies' Race: Mud, Challenge, and Victory
With whispers of knee-deep mud from the men's race, the ladies faced a daunting challenge.
Woking came out strong, but Fulham wasn't backing down. Incredible pack running secured a clean sweep of team victories for the season, with Leslie Gill, Harriet Lord, Alice Malin, Réka Körmendi, and Hannah Cox all finishing in the top 10!
Alice RW, Katie Gow, Caitlin Bailey, Lucy Butler, and Alex Flack rounded out the scoring, securing a dominant 1st and 3rd place team finish.
This means promotion to Division 1 next year - congratulations, ladies!
Nationals await
But wait, there's more! 15 brave souls are heading to Nationals in Telford - rumour has it the car park's been relocated due to the wet conditions, so expect an interesting event!
Season reflections
It's been a pleasure captaining such an enthusiastic and committed team this year! Every runner contributes to the score, and your dedication has been truly inspiring. We hope you've enjoyed the journey as much as we have.
